12 Comforting Bible Verses for Miscarriage & Pregnancy Loss (+ Free Printable)

Thank You for Sharing!

Inside: Miscarriages are devastating – it doesn’t matter whether it’s an early miscarriage or a late pregnancy loss. These Bible verses are so helpful for surviving a miscarriage. They can help you grieve your loss (because it IS a loss) and give you back your hope that you will carry a pregnancy to term in the future.

Miscarriage is hard. What makes it even more difficult is how this grief is so silent…and the fact that so few understand what you’re going through.

I’ve experienced miscarriage myself. I know your pain.

I’ve felt that deep, gut-wrenching grief where you aren’t sure if you’ll ever feel whole again, and it creeps into your future hopes of a successful pregnancy and delivery.

This grief? It separates you from friends and family and even your husband because you don’t know how to let them in, how to communicate the pain you’re going through.

But you know who does understand? Who knows your pain even better than you know it yourself? Who you don’t even need to use words for Him to get it?

God. He knows.

I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss.

Lamentations 3:20

The Bible is filled with verses designed to speak to grieving people, to voice the things you’re thinking and feeling.

I believe that God wanted to give us words to express all kinds of pain, even when you don’t have the words. He also offers hope in these Bible verses because that’s who He is: hope.

He is the giver of hope, the restorer of the broken. He brings beauty from the ashes, and He wants to meet you in your pain today.

1. Lamentations 3:17-24, NLT

Peace has been stripped away and I have forgotten what prosperity is. I cry out, “My splendor is gone! Everything I had hoped for from the Lord is lost!”

The thought of my suffering and homelessness is bitter beyond words. I will never forget this awful time, as I grieve over my loss.

Yet I still dare to hope when I remember this: The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease.

Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning. I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”

Jesus, I am hurting. In one hand, I hold my hurt for my pregnancy loss and in the other, I hold the hope of Your faithfulness. Help me to hope in You! Amen.

2. Psalm 23:1-4, NLT

The Lord is my shepherd; I have all that I need. He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams.

He renews my strength. He guides me along right path, bringing honor to his name.

Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid for you are close beside me.

Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.

God, I trust you that you are making a place for me to rest and to grieve, that you are with me in my darkest valley, even if it doesn’t feel like it. I receive the comfort you are offering me. Amen

3. Lamentations 3:32-33, NIV

Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to anyone.

God, thank you that you will show me compassion in my time of sorrow. Great is your unfailing love to me! Amen.

4. 2 Corinthians 4:17-18, NLT

For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!

So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.

Lord, reading this scripture stings. This loss is HUGE to me and I can’t see past this pain. But, God I will trust in your plan for my life. Help me to cling to your promise that this pain will be small in comparison to the glory that is to come. Amen.

When looking at the sheer weight of unseen glories to come, my troubles seem light in comparison; and when looking at the staggering length of eternity, my troubles seem fleeting by comparison.

5. John 14:27, NLT

I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.

Jesus, help me to accept your gift of peace completely. I want to experience the rest that only you can give! Amen.

6. Isaiah 26:3-4, NLT

You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you! Trust in the Lord always, for the Lord God is the eternal Rock.

God, thank you that you will keep me in perfect peace as I trust in you. Through tears and a broken heart, I cry out to you – I trust you. You are all that I need! I will not be shaken when I am clinging to the Rock that is higher than I. Amen.

I can release my grasp. He is God. My soul can be still.

7. Psalm 34:18, NIV

The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

Oh Lord, you see and know that I am brokenhearted and crushed in spirit. Thank you for being close to me right now! I need you and you alone, Lord.

8. 2 Corinthians 1:3-5, NLT

All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others.

When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us. For the more we suffer for Christ, the more God will shower us with his comfort through Christ.

Father, thank you for the comfort you have given to me! Continue to shower me with your comfort through Christ. Use this hard time in my life to teach me. I want to comfort others just as you have comforted me! Amen.

9. Job 1:21, ESV

And he said, “Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked shall I return. The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.”

Lord, I surrender to your sovereign plan for my life. Amen.

10. Psalm 68:19, NLT

Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms.

Thank you, God, for carrying me. I am weary and broken. You comfort me in my time of need. Praise God! Amen.

11. Job 2:10, NLT

But Job replied, “You talk like a foolish woman. Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” So in all this, Job said nothing wrong.

Father, help me to accept both the good and bad from your hand. You bless me lavishly, Lord. Get me through this hard time when I am full of grief. Amen.

12. Lamentations 3:32-33, NIV

Though he brings grief, he will show compassion, so great is his unfailing love. For he does not willingly bring affliction or grief to anyone.
